With their raw, atmospheric and cinematic sound, Australian duo Breathe creates music that effortlessly communicates vivid and enchanting feelings. A collaborative project of Sean Walker (formerly of Movement) and Andrew Grant (formerly of The Tapes), Breathe’s music beautifully exemplifies the power of collaboration between sound, visuals and people to evoke emotion and weave narrative in a way that captivates and soothes an audience.

Formed in Sydney in 2018, Breathe’s brilliantly minimalistic sound consists of exposed drums, prominent bass and smooth vocals, curating a seamless blend of soul and electronic music. Sydney group Rufus du Sol described Breathe as “a sultry underworld that pulls you right in”, while Australian musician Ta-Ku said the rich emotion of the duo’s projects “hit [him] right in the feelings.” Breathe’s hypnotic, deceptively simple tracks have been likened to those of Moses Sumney and Michael Kiwanuka.

Breathe’s debut single ‘Are You All Good?’ was released in September 2018 via the label Silk, with an accompanying self-directed music video made in collaboration with cinematographer Tim Nagle. Their follow-up track ‘London’, paired with mesmerising, shadowy and sparse visuals was described as “delicate and driving” and was compared to the “eerie comfort of moonlight” by UK blog The Line of Best Fit. Breathe’s third single ‘Haze’ was released in 2019, with a music video directed by Dave May of Tall Story Films.

Breathe are quickly and confidently establishing their own brand as expert curators of sounds and visuals that work to enthrall an audience and invite them into a world that is mysterious, yet strangely familiar. Their atmosphere is one that is irresistible, and calling to be explored.
